Rate Cards
Rate cards can be used when you have special bill rates for different clients. To set up a rate card simply go to the account page for one of your clients and click on the Accounting tab, then select the Rate Cards tab.
As you can see in the above screenshot each rate card has a start date and end date. In this way you can easily determine the timeframe during which the rate card is active. The "Rate Source" field can be set to either "Fixed", if you have a fixed rate for that client, or "Work Roles". If "Work Roles" is set, then you will see a list of your work roles and their standard bill rates. You can then determine if you want to change the rate for a particular work role by enabling the switch in the "Use Custom Rate" column. Then, you can specify the custom rate you want to use for that particular work role.
A rate card will be used if a time log is entered within the date range of the rate card, and if the time log is linked to the account. This will happen automatically if you log time directly against any of the following:
- Accounts
- Retainers
- Work Items
It is, however, possible to bypass the use of a rate card for time logged against a work item. To ensure that a rate card is used, make sure you select "Rate Card" as the Bill Rate Source on the work item:
