Projects as Work Items

Projects have been merged into work items. This change simplifies many aspects of Ravetree and make projects more powerful.

Reasons for the change

Work items can do everything that projects can do, and much more. Since the introduction of custom work item types earlier this year it has become clear that there is a lot of redundancy between projects and work items. So how does this work? You now have a new work item type called "Project". Select this option when create a new work item that you want to become a project.

Here are some of the new things you can do with projects now that they are work items:

  1. Establish project dependencies
  2. Create custom project phases
  3. Bulk actions
  4. Create repeating projects
  5. Nest projects inside of other projects
  6. Link teams to projects
  7. Add followers to projects
  8. Add checklists to projects
  9. View projects via the slider
  10. View projects on the Board view
  11. Quick add option for projects when on Table, Gantt, or Board view
  12. Many more column options on table views
  13. Ability to convert a task into a project (simply change its type)
  14. View project assignments on Schedule page
  15. Link service items to projects

Things that get simplified

Other than having fewer features to learn and navigate, there are lots of things that get simplified:

  1. Notifications
  2. Permissions
  3. Billing & invoicing
  4. Alerts
  5. Bill rate settings
  6. QuickBooks and Xero integrations
  7. Budgets (especially when using calculated budgets)

Also, there are fewer places to select between projects or work items. For example:

    1. Request Forms (creating forms and submitting them)
    2. Timesheets
    3. Templates
