Projects as Work Items
Soon we will be merging projects into work items. This change will simplify Ravetree and make projects more powerful. There is nothing you need to do to prepare for this update, and all of your existing projects will be migrated to work items without any effort on your part. This update is scheduled to take place towards the end of September 2025.
Reasons for the change
Work items can do everything that projects can do, and much more. Since the introduction of custom work item types earlier this year it has become clear that there is a lot of redundancy between projects and work items. So how will this work? Simply create a work item type called “Project” (don’t worry, we’ll do this for you).
Here are some of the new things you’ll be able to do with projects once they become work items:
- Establish project dependencies
- Create custom project phases
- Bulk actions
- Create repeating projects
- Nest projects inside of other projects
- Link teams to projects
- Add followers to projects
- Add checklists to projects
- View projects via the slider
- View projects on the Board view
- Quick add option for projects when on Table, Gantt, or Board view
- Many more column options on table views
- Ability to convert a task into a project (simply change its type)
- View project assignments on Schedule page
- Link service items to projects
Things that get simplified
Other than having fewer features to learn and navigate, there are lots of things that get simplified:
- Notifications
- Permissions
- Billing & invoicing
- Alerts
- Bill rate settings
- QuickBooks and Xero integrations
- Budgets (especially when using calculated budgets)
Also, there will be fewer places to select between projects or work items. For example:
- Request Forms (creating forms and submitting them)
- Timesheets
- Templates
