Proposals Overview

A proposal is an Estimate or Quote that outlines work that you intend to do for a client. Proposals can contain line items for labor, expenses, and service items.

Proposal Type

Every proposal has a type, which is set to either "Estimate" or "Quote". Changing the proposal type doesn't alter the available options, but it does affect the binding nature of the proposal (from a legal standpoint). It's important to understand the difference.

Estimate

An estimate contains a scope of work with estimated prices, usually in the form of an estimated number of hours for completing a project. It is considered a "best guess" for how much a project will cost your client. It is generally understood that the final price may differ slightly from the amount shown in the estimate. This could happen if the scope of work changes, or if the project takes longer to complete than originally planned.

Quote

A quote is a fixed price guarantee for work that you plan to offer a client. The scope and pricing in a quote is always considered fixed.

Proposal Acceptance

When you send a proposal to a client they will have the option to accept or decline your proposal. Either way, you will be notified via email regarding your clients decision. If you have linked a work item template to your proposal, then the work items in the template will be auto-generated when the proposal is accepted by your client.
